Trident Microsystems will be unveiling the industry's first-integrated 240Hz frame rate converter solution at this week's IFA show in Berlin. The new Trident FRC-V is the only single-chip solution that can convert 50Hz and 60Hz material directly to new 200/240Hz systems, enabling substantial system cost savings and higher refresh rates needed for 3-D display. In addition, Trident has made significant enhancements to the FRC-V's motion estimation and motion compensation (MEMC) technology to eliminate movie judder, motion blur, and halos to provide the sharp, clear and vivid picture quality.
The new Trident FRC-V motion compensated frame rate converter is the new high-end discrete component of the Trident IC family. With the worldwide market growth in flat panels and the introduction of HD, the Trident FRC-V becomes the new flagship for high-quality TVs. It is optimized to meet the needs of upcoming HD broadcast content as well as new HD Blu-ray players, and will also support the latest LCD technology with frame rates up to 240 Hz. The Trident FRC-V can eliminate motion blur and sharpen film content, including large area flicker reduction for source material up to 240p. The Trident FRC S+ is a 120Hz version of the FRC-V frame rate converter product family.
The Trident FRC V/S+ is ideally suited to work in conjunction with the HiDTVPRO-SXL video processor to expand the digital TV applications into 240Hz and 120Hz segments. The device comprises LVDS interfaces, memory controller for external SDRAM, and high-performance algorithms for motion blur elimination by motion compensated frame rate conversion. OmniVision unveiled two new system-on-a-chip (SOC) CMOS image sensors, the OV2643 and OV2659. Both sensors are designed to address the increased demand for 2-megapixel resolution cameras in the mid- to low-end feature phone segment, bringing high-definition (HD) video and excellent low-light sensitivity to this high-volume market. With the addition of the OV2643 and OV2659, OmniVision now offers the industry's broadest portfolio of 2-megapixel camera solutions, serving a wide variety of applications including notebooks, webcams and gaming and entertainment devices.
The two new SOC sensors with advanced image signal processing offer quality and functionality comparable to many high-performance digital still cameras, including 720p native HD video at 30 frames per second, excellent sensitivity and high quality image capture. Additionally, they are designed to meet the cost, size and performance requirements of the highly segmented camera phone market.
Designed for cost-sensitive applications, the OV2659 is built on OmniVision's 1.75-micron OmniPixel3-HS architecture, which achieves low-light sensitivity of 950 mV/lux-sec. The OV2659's 1/5-inch optical format and ultra-low profile (4 mm) fits the industry-standard 6.5 x 6.5 mm camera module size for handset applications.
Both sensors offer automatic image control functions, which include automatic exposure control, automatic white balance and automatic black-level calibration. They also feature all standard image quality controls such as color saturation, hue, gamma, sharpness (edge enhancement), lens correction, defective pixel canceling and noise canceling. The OV2643 also features black sun cancellation.
The OV2643 and OV2659 come with interfaces for standard serial camera control bus and digital video port (DVP) parallel output, offering support for UXGA, SVGA and 720p with programmable controls for frame rate as well as video operations. Source: www.cedailynews.com |

Panasonic introduced its first full HD 3-D Blu-ray disc home theater systems, providing the ultimate immersive 3-D movie experience at home. The two new home theater systems, models SC-BTT750 and SC-BTT350, employ advanced proprietary technology to envelop viewers in a remarkably authentic home theater experience and step into the 3-D world.
Networking and connectivity capabilities abound with the new models through VIERA CAST compatibility, which provides access to new online content from Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Picasa, Bloomberg TV , weather information and other services. The top-of-the-line SC-BTT750 is equipped with a wireless LAN adapter, which plugs into the USB terminal to deliver online video streaming without a LAN cable so the system can be installed without the need for any complicated wires. The SC-BTT750 system is equipped with sleek Tall Boy speakers and a stylishly slim center channel speaker, which employ advanced bamboo cone to suppress unwanted acoustic reflections and achieve clear vocals and pure, high quality sound that is not overwhelmed by sound effects. It also boasts a Kelton-type subwoofer which, due to its distinctive design, drives a powerful reverberating bass in spite of its small, compact size. The SC-BTT350 features four satellite speakers, a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. Both systems deliver 5.1-channel sound and virtual 7.1-channel surround to reproduce the dynamic sounds that further enhance the enjoyment of 3-D entertainment.
